How does IPL work?

A precise beam of light and energy is transmitted through the skin, targeting the pigment in the hair shaft. The light is absorbed by the pigment, converted to heat, causing thermal damage to the follicle and permanently destroying the hair and cells responsible for new hair growth.

What are the benefits of IPL?

Other forms of hair removal such as waxing are painful and not permanent. Electrolysis will destroy the hair but is also painful and very slow. IPL not only permanently reduces the hair but rejuvenates the skin at the same time. This is particularly good for anyone who suffers from ingrown hairs and the scarring caused by them. Usually by the end of the treatments the skin is completely scar free.

What is the different between IPL and SHR.?

IPL is a dated technology where by one intense shot is fired per 2-3 seconds at high intensity. This is quite painful for most people.

SHR and In Motion Technology combines IPL and Diode Laser. The handpiece is moved over the area to be treated 3-5 times, shooting up to 10 times per second at a lower intensity, heating the area slowly causing absolutely no discomfort to the client. It is quicker than IPL and normally less treatments are required.

Is IPL Hair Removal Permanent?

Yes IPL will reduce all hair permanently in the target area over a course of treaments, often removing all hair. It must be noted that hormonal changes, such as pregnancy may activate hair follicles that were previously dormant and produce small amount of hair. Normally 2-3 treatments will solve this issue.

What does SHR feel like?

SHR is similar to having a warm massage. As the area is heated up slowly it is more comfortable and much faster than traditional IPL treatments.

Normally 6-10 treatments will be required. Most people notice a 20-30% reduction in the first one or two treatments and as much as 95% or even more in 4-6 treatments.

What do I need to do to prepare for the treatment?

The area to be treated needs to be shaved prior to the treatment. If it not shaved the heat will burn the hair that is exposed but not be carried down into the shaft where it is needed. About 5 days after the treatment the hair will come out of the hair follicle shed.

Are there any side effects to the treatment?

Some people may get some residual warmth and slight redness to the skin but this normally settles very quickly. It is advisable to avoid vigorous exercise, hot showers, sauners and heavily chlorinated pools for 24 hours post treatment.
